Where to start reading?
This is a big question for which there are a near infinite number of answers but keep this in mind because it’s true: God is real and he rewards those who sincerely seek him. Hebrews 11:6. If you do your part, trust God to do his. Here are some starting points.
Again, having a good translation and a good study Bible can really help you work your way through the woods. Some of us have been studying for decades and it continues to be a rich and rewarding experience every day! Develop a method to keep track of where you’re reading.
Just beginning?
- God loves a curious, child-like heart. Stay that way.
- Begin by ready the Gospels – Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John and ask the Lord daily to guide you. Ask questions and you’ll find you’ll start getting answers. Ask for a better understanding of who God really is, who you really are, and how to develop a friendship that will last forever.
- Break up your reading starting at the beginning of the Psalms and Proverbs. These are amazing and super practical.
- Read at least a little every day.
Trying to get back to where you may have once been?
- We need to be honest to make a new start. Admit to God where you’ve failed and apologize and start over. That’s not only fine, it’s a regular part of the Christian life. Jesus Christ worked hard to give us a brand new start every day!
- Begin with the Gospel of Luke and then read Acts. Keep a bookmark there, and then start with Romans. This can be a challenging book, but it holds so many keys to freedom, you’ll be growing fast. Add in Psalms and Proverbs as break.
- Read every day and ask God to open the Word to you and apply it to your life – one principle at a time. You’ll start to see changes …
You believe, but you want to get stronger?
-
In Romans 11:29 it says that “… the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” (NASB). Why are you here and what are God’s purposes and plans for your life? Jesus said, “I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.” John 17:4. What is the work God has given you? Don’t know? Ask Him, seek, and knock and He’ll show you. Too many believers gladly enter into a changed life, then seem to coast, not understanding that God’s purposes and plans for their lives are just beginning!
- We encourage you to have a reading plan where you read the entire Bible, every word, and read daily, ask for the Lord to reveal his purposes and plans to you, and to commit yourself to serve the Lord with all your heart. Jesus said, “’It is written: “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”’” Matthew 4:4 NIV. Why? Because you can’t live by every word God says unless you read every word God says. You won’t regret it.
WHAT'S NEXT?

“… keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.” Luke 11:9-10 NLT
